 TRAINING:
This training session will describe how the increasingly competitive fundraising environment is forcing non-profits to become more strategic in their fundraising. This session will outline the reasons non-profit organizations engage in prospect research, the type of information that is gathered, the sources that are commonly used, and how that information is analyzed to form strategies for approaching individuals, foundations, and corporations for funding.

This presentation will also explain how this strategy can be measurable and successful.

 RESEARCH REPORTS:
In order for non-profits to be strategic when approaching potential donors, it is important that they have access to quality information. J.Walker, Inc. can provide comprehensive research reports which include data categories such as: Biographical, Educational, Employment, Business, Civic/Community Activities, Awards, Philanthropy, Wealth, and Giving.

 DONOR MATRICES:
To assist non-profits in focusing in on the "universe" of donors appropriate for their cause, custom matrices are developed to filter through the overabundance of potential donors, allowing them to focus on smaller more targeted groups. The matrix is custom designed to bring out relevant information in an easy to use excel format. Data categories for past projects have included: Competing Non-Profits, Organizations linked to Board Members and Major Donors, Wealth Indicators, Foundation Information, and Donation History.

 SMALL GROUP SCREENING:
Many non-profits have successfully screened large groups of donors from their internal databases which results often times in the hundreds or thousands of top prospects. To assist in prioritizing those donor names, the J. Walker, Inc. offers small group screening, which matches names against popular biographical, philanthropic and wealth indicators.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Prior to founding J. Walker Inc., Ms. Walker was Associate Director, Global Philanthropists Circle, for the Synergos Institute, a New York-based non-profit organization dedicated mobilizing resources and bridging social and economic divides to reduce poverty and increase equity around the world. Synergos was founded by Rockefeller family member, Peggy Dulany. In her two years with he Synergos Institute, she conceived and managed a variety of programs that raised both funds and awareness for The Global Philanthropists Circle, a Rockefeller-founded program that raises over $1 million annually for the institution. Her duties for The Circle included serving as private guide to philanthropists for in-depth country visits to South Africa, Mozambique, and Mexico; researching and reporting trends in the non-profit industry; creating prospect lists and strategies for potential business, foundation and individual funding sources; and organizing and overseeing a series of networking events with major social and economic figures.

Through these projects, Ms. Walker not only furthered her experience in the art of fundraising, but gained first-hand insight into world poverty issues while collaborating with political and societal luminaries such as David Rockefeller, Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Desmund Tutu and President Vincente Fox.

Before joining Synergos, Ms. Walker held roles of increasing responsibility at several prestigious Atlanta-based organizations, the most notable being The WebMD Foundation, Inc. (2000), The Boys & Girls Clubs of America (1994-2000) and The Jimmy Carter Center, Inc. (1990-1994). As Director of Philanthropic Initiatives for WebMD, she managed domestic and international foundation programs including Health Internetwork, an India-based pilot project for developing world doctors and nurses as well as the foundation website. Ms. Walker also conducted employee training session on the work of the WebMD Foundation.

As Director of Research for The Boys & Girls Club, she managed the Research Department and contributed substantially to the success of the charity's $30 million annual campaign drive. And as Director of Research for The Jimmy Carter Center, she contributed even more substantially to a $60 million endowment campaign and other programs that impacted worldwide issues including election monitoring and disease eradication. In both roles, her research and fundraising duties were accompanied by marketing and event responsibilities that significantly enhanced the outcome of all programs. And in both roles, her work was infused with the prior experience of marketing and research posts held at The Norrell Corporation and The Robinson-Humphrey Company, Inc.

Ms. Walker holds a B.A. in Speech Communications from Georgia's Columbus State University, where she conducted post-graduate studies in Political Science and earned the distinct honor of being the first student to participate in congressional internships (for Senator Mack Mattingly and Congressman Richard Ray). She completed additional post-grad studies in Business Administration at Georgia's Mercer University and is listed in several editions of "Who's Who," including Who's Who in the World (2004-2007); Who's Who in America (1998-2007); Who's Who in Finance and Industry (1993-2003); Who's Who in the South and Southwest (1998-1999); and Who's Who of American Women (1999-2001).
